Practice Vignette - Programming Planning & Practice
$20.00

practice vignett 4ddab84ed2371

How will it help me?

Reading about the vignettes is very important, but it's not enough. Practicing, and becoming proficient with NCARB's software is paramount. Because you use the NCARB tools and base drawing to solve the NALSA Practice Vignette, you’ll learn to solve an alternate problem while practicing with the same software you’ll be using on test day. The NALSA problem has been designed specifically to simulate what you can expect on the actual exam. Because the NALSA problem is formatted like those on the exam you’ll learn to identify subtle program differences and understand the design implications. Remember, even a small change in the program can result in a radically different solution.

What is it?

The NALSA Practice Vignettes are alternate problems to those provided in the NCARB practice software. The problem in this document is specific to the Site Zoning vignette and is to be solved using the existing NCARB software. We have modified the NCARB Directions, Program, and Code requirements to create a unique practice problem. While using the NCARB base drawing, the NALSA problem requires you to produce a different solution.

This Practice Vignette e-booklet includes:

  • Introduction and directions
  • One unique practice problem for the Site Zoning vignette
  • A Sample annotated passing solution to the vignette
  • A Sample annotated failing solution to the vignette
  • 3D model passing solution images
  • Instructions for purchasing an AREvaluation (grading) and submitting your solution to NALSA
  • Document is to be printed. Available to view online up to six times - never expires.

How do I use it?

Log in to your account at NALSA.com and on your “My Account” page, click the "View/Print e-Booklets" image. Click the "View/Print" link to print the NALSA Practice Vignette document. Open the NCARB Programming Planning & Practice software and click “Practice Vignettes.” Click the button for the Site Zoning vignette and toggle to the base drawing. Ignore the NCARB Task Information (Directions, Program, and Code) and solve the problem in the NALSA document. Time yourself. Compare your solution to the NALSA sample passing solution. Explore the images of the 3D sample passing solution to see it in a more realistic way. Check out the NALSA sample failing solution to see examples of what NOT to do.

When do I use it?

We recommend that you solve the NCARB practice vignette before attempting to solve the NALSA problem. Upload your solution to the NCARB problem to NALSA Publishing for grading. Assess your AREvaluation. This will help you to better understand your strengths and weaknesses before you solve the NALSA Practice Vignette. An AREvaluation is available for your solution to the NALSA Practice Vignette as well.

How will it help me?

The only way to know how well your solution has addressed the program requirements is to have it properly and thoroughly graded. Our graders will evaluate every aspect of your solution and provide you with valuable feedback on each program requirement. The AREvaluation highlights exactly what you've done right and wrong. You’ll learn which elements of your solution were successful and what mistakes to avoid in the future.

What is it?

Our exclusive AREvaluations are personal reviews of your solution to the NCARB or NALSA Site Zoning practice vignette. Upload your solutions through your "My Account" page.

AREvaluations provide the following:

  • Your solution receives an overall Passing, Marginal, or Failing grade
  • Each programmed element receives an Acceptable, Intermediate, or Unacceptable evaluation
  • Identifies your strengths and weaknesses
  • Valuable feedback
  • Turn-around time is 2-3 days

 How do I use it?

  1. Once you have completed a solution, leave 'Sketch' elements turned on, 'Zoom' in and press the 'Print Screen' button on your keyboard... Nothing will happen.
  2. Close the NCARB software. Open a new Microsoft Word document (or similar) in landscape orientation. ‘Paste' your solution into the new document and save it as a .pdf.
  3. Log in to your account at NALSA.com and on your “My Account” page, click the "Upload Your Solutions" image.
  4. In the “Upload Your Solutions” column, click on the 'Upload' link for the Site Zoning vignette (NCARB or NALSA). You’ll be prompted to “Browse” your computer for the file you created. Select the file and click “Submit.” The vignette name will move to the “Solutions In Review” column.
  5. When the AREvaluation is ready, you will be notified by email and the document will be available in the “Download AREvaluations” column.

When do I use it?

Upload your solution to the NCARB Site Zoning vignette for an AREvaluation before attempting to solve the NALSA Practice Vignette. This way, you can apply what you've learned from the NCARB AREvaluation when you solve the NALSA problem. Then, solve the NALSA problem and submit your solution for an AREvaluation.
